Mr. Thomas W. Gardner, PE, FSFPE, LEED AP
Principal
Mr. Gardner is a registered Fire Protection Engineer with a B.S. in Fire Protection Engineering from the University of Maryland and a B.S. in General Science from Fordham University. He has over 28 years of specialized experience in protecting a wide variety of facilities, with an emphasis on the application of building and fire codes and the design of fire suppression systems. As an active member of the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA), he has developed and processed revisions to many codes and standards including the Standard for Health Care Facilities (NFPA 99) and the Life Safety Code (NFPA 101).
Mr. Gardner’s technical experience is diverse and includes the design of fire protection and life safety systems, code consulting/compliance, and performance based design. He is experienced in the evaluation and design fire protection systems for a wide range of occupancy types in the Commercial, Institutional, Industrial, and Government markets. A primary area of his expertise is health care where he was a staff consultant to the American Health Care Association (AHCA) from 1989 – 2003, the editor of the 6th and 7th editions of the NFPA Health Care Facilities Handbook, and the co-author of the 1st and 2nd editions of the NFPA book entitled Fire and Life Safety in Health Care Facilities. Tom also has extensive experience in the protection historic and architecturally sensitive buildings. Some projects include the National War College, the Congressional Country Club, various U.S. Capitol complex buildings, and the Versace Mansion.
Mr. Gardner is a Fellow in the Society of Fire Protection Engineers (FSFPE), and is a LEED Accredited Professional.
